RESOLUTIM 369
,TIIEREAS, Charles L. Rose, Jr., a Captain in the Hawaii County
Police Department, was chosen as the Big Island's Top Sportsman
for the year 1978; and
I•'HEREAS, this dedicated public servant of 23 years found the "
necessary time to initiate and guide the resurgence of the ancient
sport of canoe racing on this island 8 years ago through this
involvement and successes with the kawaihae Canoe Club; and
G'IIEREAS, Charles Rose remains a strong advocate for the further
expansion and sustenance of the canoe racing program and has
re -committed himself by accepting to again serve as the President
of the Moku-O-Hawaii Canoe Racing Association for 1979, a position
he has honorably served for four previous terms; and
WHEREAS, his knowledge and esteem in canoe racing has won him
the position of vice-president in the Hawaiian Canoe Racing
Association (HCRA), the governing body consisting of most of the
canoe clubs within the entire state.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that in commendation to Charles Rose for his contributions
to the re -birth of canoe racing which has developed a tremendous
following with a new sense of pride in Hawaiiana, that the Council
extends its congratulations for a well. -earned and meritorious
award of recognition, and
BE IT FUFTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be instructed to remit true copies of this resolution to
Mr. & Mrs. Charles L.• Rose, Jr.; the Moku-O-Hawaii Canoe Racing
Association and the Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association.:
