HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 368 Draft 01 1976-1980U WHEREAS, Jesse Hawaii at Hilo, was the year 1978; and RFSOLUTF9N 368 Shimabukuro, a student at the University of selected as the Big Island's Top Athlete for UTIEREAS, this multi -talented athlete excelled in several sports while he was attending Hilo High School, namely, basketball, baseball, and football; and WHEREAS, Jesse won honors in basketball by being named to the Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF), all-star team, being chosen as the most outstanding player for the BIIF round robin tournament, and was picked to the all -senior all-star statewide unit selected by the Hawaii High School Athletic Association; and WHEREAS, in baseball, .Jesse was named team captain and led the Hilo High School Vikings to the BIIF's South Division champion- ship and won all-star status as a catcher and also was a vital cog for the Waiakea Pirates champions of the Hawaii Baseball League; and WHEREAS, in football, again led the Vikings as their quarter- back and was a unanimous choice for the all-star team honors. NOW, THEREFORE, BE I'T RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that in recognition of these athletic achievements, that the Council hereby extends its congratulations to Jesse Shimabukuro for winning this esteemed and deserving award as the 1978 'flop Athlete of the year. BE IT FURTHEF RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be instructed to remit true copies of this resolution to Jesse Shimabukuro and to his parents Kenichi and Tomie Shimabukuro.
