Without the extension public use of the Mamalahoa Bypass Phase 1 through the intersection with the Haleki'i Street Extension will end on September 4, 2009. Our assessment has shown that opening the Haleki'i Street Extension to the general public for one-way southbound travel has provided the intended benefit by significantly easing traffic congestion at peak hours. The Department of Public Works believes that an additional six months is warranted, and will provide relief to area motorists until a permanent solution is implemented. We request that this matter be waived from committee, as enactment prior to September 4, 2009, is crucial. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at 961-8324. vW arren H.W. In reviewing this matter, timely approval is crucial. It is therefore advantageous that approval is granted and the matter placed onto the next Council agenda for review. However, in the event this request is denied, for whatever reason, I understand the matter shall be referred to the Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations for placement on its future agenda.
