Resolution No. 342
WHEREAS, Mr. Stanley Nakasone, District Road Overseer
for.the Puna District, is a recipient of a monetary Incentive
Award; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gilbert Silva, Automotive Mechanic for both
the Puna and Ka'u District, is also a recipient of a monetary
Incentive Award; and
WHEREAS, Messrs. Nakasone and Silva's innovation cost
the County a nominal sum of seventy-five dollars ($75.00) in
modifying the Sewers Compactor CH -309 and thus saving the
taxpayers an annual savings of $2,533.00 of man hours plus untold
savings on engine wear; and
WHEREAS, by installing the PTO and throttle cable, it
eliminated the need for an employee to climb on and off of the
pickup truck thus minimizing the possibilities of industrial
accidents due to slips and falls; and
WHEREAS, the value of this contribution is considered MAJOR
and intangible benefits, improved methods, greater safety and
improvements in morale have been accomplished by these men; and
WHEREAS, the respective supervisors, Mr. Dennis Lee and
Mr. Harold Sugiyama approved of the idea and thus modification.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it extends its appreciation for their contribution
by making their place of work safer and, at the same time, saving
the County of Hawaii many thousands of dollars with their timely
innovation.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii transmit copies of this resolution to Mr. Stanley Nakasone,
Puna District Road Overseer, Mr. Gilbert Silva, Automotive
Mechanic, Mr. Dennis Lee, Civil Engineer, and Mr. Harold
Sugiyama, Civil Engineer.
