Resolution
WHEREAS, the members of the Hawaii County Council have adopted a set of
"Policies and Directions" establishing the goals of the Hawaii County Council;
and
WHEREAS, one of the goals for the Fire Department is to improve the emer-
gency medical services; and
WHEREAS, the Ninth Legislature, 1978, and the Honorable George R. Ariyoshi,
Governor of the State of Hawaii have also recognized the importance of a state-
wide comprehensive emergency medical services system; and
WHEREAS, Act 148 was approved by the Governor on June 1, 1978, establishing
a program for state-wide emergency medical services; and
WHEREAS, the newly created State program seems to be in consonance with the
goals established by the Hawaii County Council,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
it requests the Executive Branch of the County of Hawaii to seriously consider
engaging in a contract with the State Department of Health, to participate in the
State Comprehensive Emergency Medical Services System.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Executive Branch of the County of Hawaii re-
view the proposal and ramifications of Act 148, Ninth Legislature 1978 and report
their findings and recommendations to the Committee on Finance by the December 13,
1978, committee meeting.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii transmit copies
of this resolution to the Honorable Herbert T. Matayoshi, Mayor of the County of
Hawaii, Mr. John P. Keppeler, Managing Director and Mr. Donald Thompson, Fire
Chief.
