HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 335 Draft 01 1976-1980County of Hawaii—State of Hawaii Resolution No.. 335 WHEREAS, the County police and fire facilities have relo- cated to the new Waimea Civic Center; and WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii no longer has any interest or use for the old Waimea fire and police facilities covered under Executive Order No. 210; and WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii, by Resolution No. 295 has cancelled Executive Order No. 210 and quitclaimed all County -owned buildings on the premises to the State Department of Land and Natural Resources; and WHEREAS, the residents of the North-South Kohala and Hamakua areas have expressed a need for an art center to hold gallery exhibitions and conduct workshops, lectures and meetings to bring about community involvement in the arts and culture; and WHEREAS, the Waimea Arts Council is interested in utilizing the abandoned fire station building and cottages adjacent to and back of the fire facilities for such an art center; and WHEREAS, the Department of Education through Hilo High School's Project Holomua has expressed a desire to utilize the old Waimea Fire Department facility to replace classrooms now being utilized at Waimea Intermediate and Elementary School. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it supports the utilization of the facilities by the Waimea Arts Council and Project Holomua, and requests the State Department of Land and Natural Resources to consider making the buildings available to these groups. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk forward a copy of this Resolution to Mr. William Y. Thompson, Chairman and Member -at -Large of the Board of Land and Natural Resources; Mr. James Detor, Land Management Administrator; Mr. Roland Higashi, Member, Board of Land and Natural Resources; Mrs. Mildred Yamamoto, Hawaii District Land Agent; and Mr. Edward Harada, Chief Engineer, Department of Public Works, County of Hawaii; Mrs. Helen M.
