HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 320 Draft 01 1976-1980WHEREAS, the longtime resident is mourned by his friends; and 0 RESOLUTION recent passing of TH0I4AS BLAKE VANCE, a of Hawaii since 1922, at the age of 78 years family, his former associates, and his many WHEREAS, his career spanned twenty years of public service as teacher and principal in several of our Hawaii Schools, as Director of Institutions, Territory of Hawaii, and ultimately capping his illustrious governmental career as Superintendent of Hilo Memorial Hospital, a position he held for seventeen years; and WHEREAS, during his tenure at Hilo Memorial Hospital, he successfully directed the consolidation of Puumaile Home with Hilo Memorial Hospital; and WHEREAS, as an early advocate of a shorter cross -island highway between Hilo and Kona, while Director of Institutions, he initiated and directed the construction of that short span of road known as and fittingly named the "Thomas Vance Highway". NOW, TIiEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that in memory of THOMAS BLAKE VANCE for the many contributions and the legacy of dedication he left with us, that the Council posthumously extends its commendations for his esteemed past achievements and conveys to his family its deepest and most profound condolences. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Hawaii remit true copies of this daughters, Dr. Ellen -Belle Vance Thomas, Jr., and James. the Clerk of the County of resolution to his wife, Phyllis; Procter and Anna Belle; sons, Dated at Holualoa, Hawaii, this 18th day of October, 1978.
