RESOLUTION NO._ 3 0
WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii has dedicated lands adjacent
to the Wailoa estuary for the development of a park heretofore
conceptualized and known as Happiness Gardens; and
WHEREAS, this park envisioned by Engyo Nakamura, a master
landscape designer from Kyoto, Japan, is being created on a
voluntary, non-profit basis; and
WHEREAS, Engyo Nakamura is remembered by the people of
Hilo for his efforts in helping to rebuild Liliuokalani Gardens
in 1964 and for his development of the adjoining two -acre
Japanese rock garden in 1976; and
WHEREAS, as in 1976, Engyo Nakamura is again donating his
skill and efforts to create a scenic leisure park for the people
of Hawaii,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it commends Mr. Engyo Nakamura for his altruistic
contributions to the people of Hawaii.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii be and is hereby directed to transmit a true copy of
this resolution to Mr. Engyo Nakamura.
