RESOLUTION NO. 10'7 99
A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF "NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH WEEK" TO
BE HELD AUGUST 1 to 7, 1999.
WHEREAS, the County of Hawai`i's Community Policing Unit, in an effort
to prevent and preempt crime, has begun the process of developing stronger
partnerships with the citizens of our Island through the formation of Neighborhood
Watch Groups; and
WHEREAS, currently ninety-eight active watch groups have been
established in the County of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the dedication and action of these groups, which are composed
entirely of volunteers, have helped to raise the level of public safety and improve
the quality of life within their respective communities and throughout our entire
Island as a whole; and
WHEREAS, the Community Coalition For Neighborhood Safety in
conjunction with the Hawaii County Police Department and Prosecutors Office
will celebrate "Neighborhood Watch Week" from August 1 to 7, 1999; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of this event is to educate local citizenry about the
significance of community collaboration, empowerment and involvement in
combating crime; and
WHEREAS, a Public Safety Fair and Island-wide Watch Rallies are
scheduled as a part of this activity.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII, that it requests Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro to
proclaim August 1 to 7, 1999 "Neighborhood Watch Week" for the County of
Hawaii.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is
hereby directed to forward true copies of this resolution to the Honorable Mayor
Stephen K. Yamashiro; Police Chief Wayne Carvalho; Sergeant James Sanborn,
Community Policing Unit and Toni Bello of the Community Coalition For
Neighborhood Safety.
