Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred
Communication No. 399, reports as follows:
Communication 399, transmitted by Council Chair J Yoshimoto, dated June 9, 2009, forwarded
the Mamalahoa Highway Bypass Sixty (60) Day Report the report, dated .Tune 3, 2009 from
Warren H.W. Lee, Director of the Department of Public Works. The report provides the amount
of motorists using the bypass; discusses the effect on the "Kainaliu Crawl;" includes reports from
the residents and developers in the area; reports on daily operations in controlling traffic, status of
safety improvements, plans for future safety improvements; and provides the department's
recommendation. This report is submitted pursuant to Ordinance Nos. 08-58 and 08-59, which
also require the Council to take appropriate action to determine the continued use of Haleki`i
Street as a public vehicle thoroughfare.
At its meeting of July 7, 2009, Your Committee recommended acceptance of the contents of
Comm. 399. Items from all committee agendas for July 7, 2009 were put to a re-vote due to
issues of legality. The remaining history and information regarding this measure is contained"
within the original Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations Committee Report 36, dated
July 7, 2009.
Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations is in accord with the purpose
and intent of the contents of Comm. 399 and recommends acceptance of the suggestions therein.
