Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred
Communication No. 366 and Bill 65, reports as follows:
Bill 65, transmitted by Director of Public Works Warren H.W. Lee, via Communication No. 108, dated
May 15, 2009, amends Chapter 24, Article 10, Division 1, Section 24-255, Schedule 3 (25 mile per hour
limit), paragraph (f) Kona, of the Hawaii County Code 1983, (2005 Edition, as amended), to be
appropriately numbered and to read as follows:
"(9) Mamalahoa Highway, from the terminus of the State Highway in Honalo
to a point [€ea~] five thousand one hundred feet in [a] the southerly
direction."
At its meeting of July 7, 2009, Your Committee recommended passage of Bill 65 on first reading. Items
from all committee agendas for July 7, 2009 were put to a re-vote due to issues of legality. The remaining
history and information regarding this measure is contained within the original Public Works and
hrtergovernmental Relations Committee Report 27, dated July 7, 2009.
At the meeting of August 4, 2009, Traffic Division Chief Ron Thiel commented that this amendment is
necessary to update the Hawaii County Code to match field conditions.
Your Committee on Public Works and lntergovernmental Relations is in accord with the purpose and
intent of Bill 65 and recommends passage at first reading.
