Your Committee on Public Safety and Pazks and Recreation, to which was referred
Communication 398, reports as follows:
Communication No. 411, transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated June 22, 2009, nominates
Mr. Scott Stabo of Council District 6 to serve on the Hawaii County Fire Commission.
According to Communication 411, Mr. Stabo is a three year resident of Hawaii, and is a
self-employed General Contractor with Stabo Construction Company, Inc. He serves as a volunteer
firefighter in his community. A member of the Republican Party, he will serve a term to end on
December 31, 2013, replacing Ms. Karen Kudlo, whose term expired on December 31, 2008.
Pursuant to Article VI, Chapter 4, Section 6-4-5, Hawaii County Charter, "There shall be a fire
commission, which shall consist of nine members ...appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the
council in the manner prescribed in Section 13-4."
Mr. Enriques spoke in favor of the appointment.
Chair Yagong advised Deputy Corporation Counsel Brandon Gonzales, who was present at the
meeting, that Mr. Stabo is not required to be present for the final confirmation at full Council.
Your Committee on Public Safety and Pazks and Recreation recommends the confirmation of the
appointment of Mr. Scott Stabo to serve on the Hawaii County Fire Commission.
