The proposed amendment reads as follows: "BE IT FUR"PFIF.R RESOLVED that this Resolution shall be in effect for the duration of the Council Member's current term, expiring at Noon, December 6, 2010." The proposed amendment is in bold for illustrative purposes only. A draft copy of Resolution No. 224-09, Draft 2, is attached with the amendment incorporated. Uore SEP D ~ 20t1~ A RESOLUTION ALLOWING COUNCIL MEMBERS TO VOLUNTARILY REQUEST TO TRANSFER NO LESS THAN $5,000 FROM COUNTY CLERK'S SALARY AND WAGES (S&W) ACCOUNT TO THE CONTINGENCY RELIEF ACCOUNT, TO BE APPROPRIATED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CURRENT CONTINGENCY RELIEF FUND PROCEDURES. WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council should exercise leadership during these difficult economic times, particularly in terms of compensation levels; and WHEREAS, some Hawaii County Council members may wish to use a portion of their County salaries as a means of financially supporting chosen 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations; and WHEREAS, in previous terms, Council members had the use of a Contingency Relief Fund to help fund programs and activities offered by 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations and sponsored by the County, and effective procedures already exist for the appropriation of Contingency Relief Funds; and WHEREAS, final determination of salary transfer procedures will be done accordingly; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that Council members can choose to voluntarily transfer a specific amount, not less than $5,000, from County Clerk's S&W accounts to the Contingency Relief account. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution shall be in effect for the duration of the Council Member's current term, expiring at Noon, December 6, 2010. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the amount transferred to the Contingency Relief account be further appropriated by that Council member in accordance with existing Contingency Relief Fund appropriation procedures. BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward copies of this resolution to the Honorable Mayor William P. Kenoi, the Director of the Department of Finance, and the Director of the Department of Human Resources.
