WHEREAS, the 183 -member Kamehameha Schools Warrior Marching
Band was recently judged the best of 23 competing out-of-state
bands at the "Festival of Roses" competition held in Portland,
Oregon; and
WHEREAS, Roland and Robert Cazimero, both graduates of
Kamehameha Schools and renowned Hawaiian musicians, are major
forces behind the "Renaissance" of traditional to modern Hawaiian
music; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii congressional delegation hosted
performances by these groups in Washington, 0. C-, first by the
band on the steps of the United States Capitol at noon, then in an
evening joint concert at the Sylvan Theater on the grounds of the
Washington Monument.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that the members and directors of the Kamehameha Schools
Warrior Marching Hand be congratulated for their achievement, and
the Brothers Cazimero for their stewardship as ambassadors of
Hawaii throughout their recent mainland trip.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Hawaii's congressional delegation
be thanked for hosting the performances of these two cultural
representatives of Hawaii, and thereby, allowing the "Aloha
Spirit" to be displayed in the nation's Capitol.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be directed to transmit copies of this Resolution to members of
Hawaii's congressional delegation, the President and Bandmaster of
Kamehameha Schools, and they Brothers Cazimero.
