HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 418 Draft 01 1980-1984County of Hawaii - State of Hawaii Resolution WHEREAS, high interest rates have created a financial crisis for homeowners who want to sell, but are finding it hard because of the high interest rates; and WHEREAS, prospective buyers of homes cannot obtain affordable financing due to high interest rates; and WHEREAS, businesses are not expanding and in many cases going bankrupt, causing workers to be permanently layed-off and thus a 9.8 percent of the total workforce in the U. S. is unemployed; and WHEREAS, the lending institutions are having difficulties in reducing loan rates since the Federal deficit is competing for nearly all of the available funds; and WHEREAS, the U. S. Congress and President Reagan's Administration agree that the cause of the high interest rates is the massive Federal deficit. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it requests our national leaders to get together in a bipartisan manner to develop effective solutions in a common interest to limiting the 1983 Federal Budget deficit to $100 billion. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of. Hawaii be instructed to remit copies of this resolution to President Ronald Reagan and to members of our Hawaii Congressional delegation.
