Resolution
WHEREAS, high interest rates have created a financial crisis
for homeowners who want to sell, but are finding it hard because
of the high interest rates; and
WHEREAS, prospective buyers of homes cannot obtain affordable
financing due to high interest rates; and
WHEREAS, businesses are not expanding and in many cases going
bankrupt, causing workers to be permanently layed-off and thus a
9.8 percent of the total workforce in the U. S. is unemployed; and
WHEREAS, the lending institutions are having difficulties in
reducing loan rates since the Federal deficit is competing for nearly
all of the available funds; and
WHEREAS, the U. S. Congress and President Reagan's Administration
agree that the cause of the high interest rates is the massive Federal
deficit.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it requests our national leaders to get together in a
bipartisan manner to develop effective solutions in a common interest
to limiting the 1983 Federal Budget deficit to $100 billion.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of. Hawaii
be instructed to remit copies of this resolution to President
Ronald Reagan and to members of our Hawaii Congressional delegation.
