WHEREAS, the 21st Annual Parker Ranch Fourth of
will be dedicated to Adele "Tutu" Brown, a .long-time
and dedicated community volunteer worker; and

WHEREAS, the name "Tutu", as she is affectionately called, is
an esteemed acknowledgment of Mrs. Brown's role as "mother confessor"
or the person the community could always turn to for guidance; and
WHEREAS, in her 45 years at Waimea, Adele Brown has become the
epitome of volunteerism having served for 17 years as the volunteer
treasurer of the Kamuela Community Federal Credit Union which she
helped to establish in 1956, having assisted in the operations of
a baby clinic in conjunction with a state program from 1938 until.
World War II began, having organized basketball teams of boys and
girls, having worked for the Imiola Church, having devoted fulltime
to USO work with the Military Special Services, and having helped
establish the library operations for many years; and
WHEREAS, "Tutu" Brown today remains an active and effective
volunteer with ties to the Waimea-Kawaihae Community Association,
the Lima Kokua Wahines, and the Lucy Henriques Medical Center
Auxiliary; and
WHEREAS, the 21 -year tradition of dedicating the Parker Ranch
Fourth of July races to deserving personalities is most appropriately
awarded this year to Adele Brown who has long been an active and .
invalua'le good samaritan of. the Waimea community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII, that in recognition of this honor bestowed upon Tutu Brown
for all of her humanitarian pursuits and accomplishments, that it
extends to her its congratulations for giving and living the real
meaning of the Aloha Spirit.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
is instructed to remit true copies of this resolution to Mrs. Adele
"Tutu" Brown and Richard Smart.
