WHEREAS, Adam J. Carvalho a dedicated police officer of
twenty-five years will end his public service career upon his
retirement at the end of this month; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Carvalho a native son of Hilo initially made his
mark upon our community as an athlete from St. Joseph's High School,
and best remembered for his play in some classic and memorable
basketball and baseball games during the period 1948 to 1951; and
WHEREAS, during his police career which began in 1957, Adam
Carvalho continued his interest in the sporting circles by playing
for the championship basketball teams of the Waiakea Pirates for
the years 1966, 1967-68 and the Champion Lincoln Wreckers baseball
nines of 1968, 1969 and 1970; and
WHEREAS, besides these notable feats which won him the 1969
Athlete -of -the -Year award, Adam Carvalho also excelled in the sport
of golf winning the Big Island Amateur Golf Championship for 1969,
1970, 1974 and 1976 and won the privilege to represent the State of
Hawaii to play in the National Public Links Tournament in 1969, 1970,
1972 and 1973; and
WHEREAS, Adam Carvalho, veteran of the U. S. Army, a member of
the Young Men's Institute and the Hawaii Golf Club, has certainly
made noteworthy contributions towards the history of sporting
achievements on the Big Island.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that on the advent of Adam J. Carvalho's retirement of
twenty-fdve years of commendable service with the Hawaii Police
Department, extends its wishes for good health and luck in all of
his retirement pursuits.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
remit true copies of this Resolution to Adam J. Carvalho, and
Police Chief Guy Paul.
