Resolution
WHEREAS, the Moku O Hawaii Canoe Racing Association is hosting
the 1982 Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association State Championship
Regatta on August 7, 1982, in HiloBay; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council welcomes our State's
thirty-four Canoe Racing teams as they compete in this Hawaiian
sport;. and
WHEREAS, to help promote the sport and generate economic acti-
vity for our island, community -wide support is being sought from
the business sector, government sector, and the public in general to,
participate in and enjoy the festivities of the day; and
WHEREAS, in the spirit of competition for the continuance and
advancement of canoe racing as a sport, the County of Hawaii calls
upon its elected officials to compete in a Celebrity Hawaiian Canoe
Race, sponsored by the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Corporation, to be
held during the noon time.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it issues a challenge to all the Mayors and County
Councilmembers of our 50th State to compete in a Celebrity Hawaiian
Canoe Race between Counties on August 7, 1982,'in Hilo Bay.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be and is hereby directed totransmit copies of this challenge to
The Honorable Mayor Herbert T. Matayoshi, Mayor of the County of
Hawaii; The Honorable Eileen Anderson, Mayor of the City and County
of Honolulu; The Honorable Rudy Pacarro, Council Chairman, City and
County of Honolulu; The Honorable Eduardo Malapit, Mayor of the
County of Kauai; The Honorable Jeremy Harris, Council Chairman,
County of Kauai; The Honorable Hannibal Tavares, Mayor of the County
of Maui; and to The Honorable Robert Nakasone, Council Chairman,
County of Maui.
