WHEREAS, the Fifth Annual Macadamia Nut Harvest Festival will once
again be celebrated from August 13-22, 1982, in Honokaa, Hawaii, the
"Macadamia Nut Capitol of the World"; and
WHEREAS, this event, popularly knovm as."Au ustfest", was so
appropriately conceived in 1978 in this small community located along
the lush green slopes of the Hamakua Coast, to salute the start of the
macadabia nut harvesting season; and
WHEREAS, the 1982 Augustfest also commemorates Hawaii County's
contribution of over 99% of the State's total macadamia nut production
which places it in the top three value -producing cash crops; and
WHEREAS, it is through the efforts of independent growers, the
community of Honokaa, and its local businesses that the macadamia nut
industry has come to symbolize the importance of aricultural
diversity in our County and State; and
WHEREAS, the success of previous festivals can be attributed to
the cooperative energies of the Macadamians, .Enc., a non-profit
community organization and many others dedicated to the continuing
advancement of the macadamia nut industry.
2 -TOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it reco-nines the 1982 Fifth Annual Macadamia Nut Harvest:
Festival as it signalizes the industry's growing importance to the
economic and agricultural goals of this County.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that it commends the Macadamians, Inc. and
other numerous participants for coordinating and promoting this annual
event and further extends its best swishes for a very successful
festival.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that residents and visitors alike are
encouraged to join in the harvest festivities planned for
August 13-22, 1982.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that true copies of this Resolution be sent
to the Macadamians, Inc., the Hawaii Macadamia Nut Producers
Association, Hawaiian Holiday Inc., and Representative
Yoshito Ta;camine.
