HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 389 Draft 01 1980-1984RESOLUTION NO. : 62 WHEREAS, Alice Bevins Greenwell a long-time'resident of the Kona area will be retiring as the Executive Director of the West Hawaii Animal Shelter effective July 1, 1982; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Greenwell was the prime mover in the conversion of the former Xona County Pound into the efficient and well-managed animal shelter operations it is today; and WHEREAS, this dedication to the cause of animal care formally began in 1971? when she began to take in stray or unwanted animals at her residence at her own expense until the shelter in Kailua was completed in 1975; and WHEREAS, Alice Greenwell has been the shelter's Executive Director since its inception and this endeavor was her second career calling as this Kama'aina of Hawaii Nei was born and reared on Maui, graduated from the University of Hawaii, and was a respected educator in our public schools for 34 years during the period 1931 to 1965. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that in recognition of this long and esteemed humanitarian community service, that it commends Alice Greenwell as she retires from an exemplary life as a public servant and that it recommends that a deserving tribute be bestowed upon the occasion of her retirement by re-naming,the shelter the "Alice B. Greenwell West Hawaii Animal Shelter:° BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii remit true copies of this resolution to Mrs. Alice B. Greenwell, Mayor Herbert T.
