HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 385 Draft 01 1980-1984RESOLUTION NO. 385 02 WHEREAS, the Fuller Award is given to a member or members of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) who have provided outstanding leadership or have made significant contributions toward the advancement of water works practices within designated sections of the United States; and WHEREAS, Akira Fujimoto, former Manager of the Hawaii County Water Department and now a resident engineer for the R. M. Towill Corporation in Hilo, received the award on May 5, 1982, at the Hawaii Section's Annual AWWA Conference on Oahu; and WHEREAS, in his nomination for the award, Mr. Fujimoto was cited "for outstanding service to the Hawaii County Nater Department and for his numerous contributions to the Hawaii Section of the AWWA during its formative years; and WHEREAS, Mr. Fujimoto was also recognized for his consummate skill in dealing with legislative matters affecting the water works industry and water development in the County of Hawaii; and WHEREAS, during his eleven years as Manager of the County mater Department, he put together a program of water development that brought together Federal, State, County and private funding which increased the department's assets by over 300%; and WHEREAS, with astute foresight, he carefully laid the grounowork for early compliance .with the Safe Drinking hater Act of 1974 by bringing the County's water supplies up to applicable standards. NOW, THEREFORE, SE IT RESOLVED 8Y THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that .it tales this means to pay special tribute to Mr. Akira Fujimoto for winning the Fuller Award of the Hawaii Section American Water Works Association. 3E IT FURTHER RESOLVEU that the members of the County Council join the people of the Big Islano in expressing our deepest appreciation to .sir. Fujimoto for nis role in the development and improvement of the County's water system. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that true copies of this resolution be transmitted to Mr. Akira Fujimoto and to Mr. William Y. Thompson, Hawaii Section President of the American 'Nater Works Association.
