WHEREAS, from 36 outstanding older American nominees,
Mr. Itsuki Sakoda was named the Outstanding Older American Male
of Hawaii County for 1982 at the annual recognition luncheon
held at the Kaiko'o Banquet Lanai, Quality nn Hilo Lagoon Hotel
on May 4, 1982; and
WHEREAS, at age 75, Mr. Sakoda, a native of Pahoa carries
an exceptional record of achievements and services, having held
various positions including President, Vice President, Treasurer,
Advisor, Board Member of Community Council; member, Hawaii County
Economic Opportunity Council, Senior Clubs, Officer of the Puna
Hongwanji, Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP); and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sakoda in 1979 was a recipient of the Out-
standing Senior Gomoku Championship Award from Mayor Herbert T.
Matayoshi; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sakoda is recognized by his peers for his
unselfish dedication to serve the people by his enthusiastic
demonstration in whatever needs to be done for the benefit of
the Older Americans; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sakoda is also recognized as a leader amongst
many ethnic, religious, and various community groups who has
never hesitated to say things as he saw it.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it extends its congratulation to Mr. Itsuki Sakoda
of Pahoa for being selected the 1982 Hawaii County Outstanding
Older .American Male and wishes him good health so that he may be
able to continuously serve the people for many years to come.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii be instructed to remit a true copy of this resolution to
Mr. Itsuki Sakoda and to Mr. William Takaba of the Office of
Aging.
