RESOLUTION NO. 382 62
WHEREAS, the "Hawaiian Beaches Community Patrol" project
sponsored by the Hui Kahakai Community Association has been
recognized by the National Association of Counties (NACo) as a
recipient of its Good Neighbor Award; and
WHEREAS, the Patrol, composed of a group of volunteer private
citizens, originated in 1979 with a grant assistance of $6,000
from the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration (LEAA) for the
purpose of preventing and controlling crime in the Hawaiian
Beaches Subdivision; and
WHEREAS, the Patrol, working in close cooperation with the
Hawaii County Police Department and the Civil Defense Agency,
exemplifies the effectiveness of a community group's commitment
toward a safer and more peaceful community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it commends the members of the Hawaiian Beaches
Community Patrol for their selection for the Good Neighbor Award
by the National Association of Counties.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
transmit a copy of this Resolution to S. Pat Gibbons, Patrol Chief
and Mrs. Daisy Smith, President of the Hui Kahakai Community
Association.
