HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 347 Draft 01 1980-1984RESOLUTION No. 347 82 WHEREAS, the 19th Annual i`4errie Monarch Festival held in ililo during the week, of April 11-17, 1982, honors Hawaii's beloved Royal Merrie Monarch, ;Ging David La'amea Kalakaua, and perpetuates the festivities that he loved; and WHEREAS, hula competitions, held in conjunction with the Annual Morrie Monarch Festival, are recognized as the premier of hula competitions in the State of Hawaii; and 'H[-.',RCAS, the Miss Aloha Hula contest featuring the best individual wahine hula dancers in the State was held during the first night of competition; and WREREAS, in the best tradition of the event, Kanani Oda of ado's own Johnny Lum Ho's Halau 0 Ka Ua Kani Lehua, danced her way to perfection and won the Miss Aloha Hula crown for 1982 over a field of eleven contestants; and WHEREAS, the talented and lovely Miss Oda joins Kaula Kamahele (Miss Aloha Hula 1980) and Brenda.Alidon (Miss Aloha Hula 1981) as the third consecutive Lum Ho dancer to have won this prestigious title. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUI4TY OF HAWAII that it takes this means to congratulate Miss Kanani Oda for liar outstanding display of grace, beauty and talent in capturing the 1982 Miss Aloha hula Competition held on the evening of April 15, 1982, during the 19th Annual Merrie Plonarch Festival. BE ZT.FURTHER RESOLVED that true copies of this Resolution be transmitted to Miss Kanani Oda, her Kumu Hula Johnny Lura no, and to Festival Chairman, Ms. Dorothy "Dot" Thompson.
