WHEREAS, during the GIRLS STATE SESSION held on Oahu, at
Hawaii College on June 10 -114, 1921, Jacqueline Villanueva,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Villanueva of Pahala, was selected
as one of the two girls to represent Hawaii in Washington, D. C.,
at the 35th Annual Girls Nation Conference sponsored by the American
Legion Auxiliary; and
WHEREAS, the GIRLS NATION CONFERENCE objective is to go into an
in-depth study of the federal government, have a meeting with the
President and Congressional delegation from Hawaii, thereby learning
the details of the representative government operations; and
WHEREAS, during the conference Jackie was selected as the Counter-
part of the Assistant Secretary for Tourism and was quoted as saving,
"The government in our society is being run by the people who live in
it. I feel youth must participate in and learn what the future govern-
ment of our country will be like"; and
WHEREAS, Jackie was doubly honored in that -she was the only outer
island participant and was given the privilege to represent the whole
state of Hawaii at the GIRLS NATION CONFERENCE in Washington, D. C.
NOW, THEREFORE:,, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
IiAWAII that it extends its congratulations to Jacqueline Villanueva
for being selected as one of the two girls to represent Hawaii in
Washington, D. C., at the 35th Annual Girls Nation Conference.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be
instructed to remit a true copy of this resolution to JACQUELINE.
