Resolution
WHEREAS, pursuant to County Charter Section 3-14 interim amendments to the
Salary Ordinance may be by resolution;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
the Salary Ordinance is hereby amended for the following department:
SECTION 8.09 (b). RECREATION DIVISION. DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION.
1. Delete one position of Recreation Instructor SR -9.
REGULAR COUNTY POSITIONS (PART-TIME) (Page 29)
SECTION 8.09 (b). RECREATION DIVISION. DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION.
1. Change the time element of one position of Recreation Instructor SR -9
from 1/2 time.to full time. Also,transfer position to Section 8.09 (b),
Recreation Division on Page 19.
2. Reallocate and change the time element of one position of Recreation
Aid SR -7 (1/2 time) to Recreation Instructor SR -9 (full time). Also,
transfer position to Section 8.09 (b), Recreation Division, on Page 19.
3. Reallocate and change the time element of one position of Recreation
Aid SR -7 (1/2 time) to Recreation Instructor SR -9 (3/4 time).
This resolution shall amend the Salary Ordinance of 1981 and incorporated
into the Salary Ordinance of 1982, after adoption.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the
departments of Parks and Recreation, Finance and Civil Service for their information.

Duties Summary:
Performs .a variety of tasks in the maintenance and operation of recreation
facilities; performs clerical tasks; and performs other related duties as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This class differs from that of Recreation Assistant I in that the
Recreation Aid performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance and operation of
recreation facilities; whereas the Recreation Assistant I provides subprofessional
support and/or assistance in the conduct of public recreational activities.
Illustrative Examples of Work:
Performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance and operation of indoor and
outdoor recreation facilities such as ball fields, tennis, combination volleyball/
basketball courts, and other similar area; marks off playing areas with prescribed
markings prior to league or tournament play; receives, stores and issues expendable
supplies and equipment; arranges for equipment or tools, charges them to participants
and checks them for condition on their return; keeps inventory records and notifies
supervisor of need to reorder supplies; checks recreation area for general condition,
safety hazards or for routine maintenance needs and reports findings to supervisor;
keeps schedules of athletic events and posts individual or team scores; assists in
supervising large groups during bus trips, special tours or other planned outings;
may operate slide projectors, phonographs or tape recorders in providing special
programs; maintains schedules of use for assigned. recreational areas or facilities
and keeps records of attendance; posts announcements of scheduled activities and
answers inquiries about time, place and other matters related to activities scheduled.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience sub-
stantially equivalent to graduation from high school.
. Knowledge of: recreation.equipment; rules and regulations of a variety
of popular games and sports.
Ability to: understand and follow oral and written instructions; keep
records; interpret rules and regulations of various popular games and sports.

such as hula, handcrafts, native dancing, sports, swimming, etc.; and performs
other related duties as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This class differs from that of Recreation Leader in that the Recreation
Instructor instructs groups in an area of recreational specialty; whereas the
Recreation Leader assists in organizing and directing a variety of recreational
activities at an assigned playground or gymnasium.
This class differs from that of Recreation Assistant in that the
Recreation Instructor instructs groups in an area of recreational specialty;
whereas the Recreation Assistant plens, organizes and directs a variety of
recreational activities at several playgrounds.
Illustrative Examples of Work:
Teaches a recreational specialty such as hula, folk dancing, ukulele,
playing, weaving, play acting, swimming or tennis; work with the Parks and
Recreation District Supervisor in planning programs and gives instructions to
assigned group; adapts techniques and methods to particular group served; assists
in preparing costumes, scenery props, etc. as needed; prepares reports on classes
conducted, attendance and the like.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience
substantially equiva ent to graduation from high school and one year of experience
in the specialized activity to be taught.
CertificateRequired: For Recreation Instructor positions teaching
swimming only -- possession of a Red Cross Senior Lifesaving and Standard First
