HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 314 Draft 01 1980-1984RESOLUTION NO. 314 82 WHEREAS, Mrs. Ruth Nishijima has been selected as the Big Island Volunteer of the Year by the Advisory Council of the Big Island Center for Independent Living; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Nishijima was honored along with other National Volunteers from Kauai, Maui and Oahu, at the first State Convention held at Ala Moana American Hotel in Honolulu on February 13, 1982; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Nishijima is the wife of Ernest Nishijima, who is blind and who also organized the Big Island Center for Independent Living; and WHEREAS, working closely with her husband, Mrs. Nishijima donated the use of her van to transport the wheelchair disabled, physically carrying the disabled in and out of the van in pursuit of giving assistance to the needy. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it expresses its deep appreciation to Mrs. Ruth Nishijima for loyally supporting her husband in organizing the BigrIsland Center for Independent Living and extends its commendation for being selected and being honored at the Statewide BICIL Convention held in Honolulu for her two years of dedicated contribution to the disabled on the Big Island. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of -the Countv of Hawaii transmit true conies of this Resolution to Mrs, Ruth Nishijima and to Mr. Jack Matsui, Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Big Island Center for Independent Living.
