WHEPEAS, the Island of Hawaii lost one of its beloved native
sons and popular radio personalities with the death of Rex mills, II
on February 16, 1982, at the age of 60; and
WHEREAS, Big Islanders will greatly miss the familiar deep
baritone voice which entertained local radio audiences since 1971 at
Radio Station KIPA and later at KHLO; and
WHEREAS, at the time of his death, Rex was the sales manager of
KHLG RADIO where tie hosted the popular "Sunday Swing" Big Band Show
for several years and provided his listening audience with a
well-rounded program suitable for all ages; and
WHEREAS, Rex was also well known among local sports fans as the
pioneer of radio broadcasting of early Vulcan basketball games, prep
events and the annual Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament; and
WHEREAS, as a former consultant for. the Guamanian Visitor Bureau
and public relations director for Aloha Airlines, Rex was a
versatile and involved individual who will be sorely missed as a
media personality and as a kamaaina.
NO:J, THEREFOiM, BE IT RESOLVED BY T14E COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it takes this means to join Rex's numerous friends and
fans in honoring his memory and extending its heartfelt condolences
to his wife and family.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a true copy of this Resolution be
transmitted to Rex's widow, Shirley.
