HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 298 Draft 01 1980-1984RESOLUTION NO. 298 WHEREAS, the people of the Big Island of Hawaii appreciate the role of sports and athletics in the life of our community; and WHEREAS, we are proud of our island home and the facilities we have for our guests; and WHEREAS, the Budweiser Light Ironman World Triathlon, staged on the Big Island, with its rough water swim, cycle course, and marathon course, covers some of the most powerful landscapes that Hawaii has to offer; and WHEREAS, 589 individuals challenged themselves on the Big Island's Ironman course on Saturday, February 6, 1982, and distinguished themselves as outstanding athletes and are worthy of our recognition and honor; and WHEREAS, once again, the people of the Big Island of Hawaii did share in organizing and supporting the staging of this special activity --many of them as volunteers. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it congratulates all of the competitors, the organizers, the sponsors and the supporters of the Budweiser Light Ironman World Triathlon on this occasion, proclaiming as well that this event has truly become a Big Island event. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Council does extend the welcome of the people of the Big Island to all those above mentioned to continue to organize, to sponsor, to support, to train for and to compete in the Ironman Triathlon here on the Big Island of Hawaii. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that true copies of this Resolution be presented to Valerie Silk, Race Director, on behalf of all of the volunteers, staff, and competitors; to John Lodge of Anheuser-Busch,_Inc..; to Dudley Child of InterIsland Resorts; and to Peter Dudgeon of Hawaiian Air, on behalf of all of the sponsors.
