RESOLUTION NO. 294 82
WHEREAS, at the annual Outstanding State Employee of the Year
Award ceremony held in Honolulu on November 20, 1981, Sanford Higashi
of Kealakekua was named the outstanding employee of the Department of
Accounting and General Services for 1980-1981; and
WHEREAS, in bestowingthis honor, the State Comptroller stated,
"You have surpassed all expectation levels in carrying out your
responsibilities as a School Bus Transportation Officer in West Hawaii
and have exemplified total dedication and commitment to excellence"; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Higashi's efforts have helped ensure the success of
the State-owned and operated school program in West Hawaii by providing
safe, dependable and uninterrupted bus service for Kona students; and
WHEREAS, being a skilled mechanic, Mr. Higashi has'serviced and
repaired the school buses himself during emergencies, thus saving the
State thousands of dollars by keeping the buses moving; and
WHEREAS, as his contribution towards the educational enrichment of
students in the outlying Kona areas, he has, when requested by the Kona
school principals, made all the necessary transportation arrangements
to bus the youngsters in to Konawaena School so that they could attend
and benefit from the extra curricular enrichment programs that are
offered at nights and over weekends, without seeking additional compensa-
tion for his services.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it hereby recognizes and commends Sanford Higashi for being
honored as the most outstanding employee of, the year in the Department
of Accounting and General Services, State of Hawaii.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be
directed to transmit a true copy of this resolution to Sanford Higashi
with the County Council's.best wishes and congratulations for a job
well done.
