RESOLUTION NO. 292 82
WHEREAS, Dr. Leila L. Kanno, a member of the Hawaii County Police
Commission since 1978, was selected, effective January 1, 1982, to
Chair this important Commission for the calendar year 19821 and
WHEREAS, this responsible assignment demands the qualifications
of a person who possftsses administrative, parliamentary and com-
municative skills to properly address the vital concerns of public
safety as it relates to police works and
WHEREAS, the credentials of Dr. Kanno., a lifetime resident of
Hawaii County, an esteemed career educator at the University of
Hawaii at Hilo, and a community -minded activist involved in such
organizations as the YWCA, the Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Society,.
the Hawaii Federation of College Teachers, the UH -Hilo Athletic
Booster Club and the Democratic Party, are indeed impressive as well
as needed for the tasks that she will have to undertake; and
WHEREAS, within this short period of Dr. Kanno's leadership,
the Police Commission has expeditiously formulated a departmental
policy regarding the controversial subject•of the releasing of
information dealing with rape and sexual assault, to the mutual
satisfaction of all parties involved, further attesting to her
qualifications. I .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY.OP
HAWAII that it extends to Dr. Leila L. Kanno congratulations upon
her deserved selection as Chairperson of the Hawaii County Police
Commission and wishes her continued success in her personal as well
as civic -oriented endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be directed to remit true copies of this resolution to Dr. Leila L.
Kanno; the Hawaii County Police Commission; and to Guy R. Paul,
Chief of Police..
