RESOLUTION NO. 289 82
WHEREAS, the persistent HUALALAI EXCHANGE CLUB (HEC) of Kona
managed to get approval for their sign plan "WELCOME TO KAILUA-KONA"
from the Kailua Design Commission, County Planning Commission and
finally from the County Council; and
WHEREAS, the HEC chartered in May 1980 has been very active in
many projects dealing with American Citizen, youth and community
involvements; and
WHEREAS, during the past year the HEC established the Pop Warner
Big Island Western Division Advisory Commission overseeing the promotion
of Pop Warner Football activities in West Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the HEC recognized outstanding achievements of the Kona
youth by presenting a plaque inscribed with "Youth of the Month" at
their regular monthly luncheon meeting together with the story and photo
in the local newspaper; and
WHEREAS, the club worked toward realization of the $75,000 needed
for improvements to the Old Kona Airport Park from the County Administra-
tion, by participating in the Mothers March to raise funds for the March
of Dimes; and
WHEREAS, in the area 'of American Citizenship, the HEC recognized a
resident for regularly flying the American flag in the Kona Community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it extends its recognition and commends the HUALALAI EXCHANGE
CLUB for their past year accomplishments in serving the community in
projects such as signs, youth, citizenship and fund raising.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
transmit copies of this resolution to Vern F. Berry, President of the
Hualalai Exchange Club; President-elect Ed Spencer; Secretary Harvey
Yoshimura; Treasurer Bob Triantos; District Director Gary Bartolome and
also to the following directors: John Tsue, March Taylor, Fred Spencer,
Mitch Ray and Reggie Morimoto.
