Resolution No. 284 82
WHEREAS, January 13 to February 28, 1982, has been set aside for
the 1982 HAWAII ARMY NATIONAL GUARD RECRUITMENT DRIVE; and
WHEREAS, the NATIONAL GUARD is the oldest military force in our
country dating back to the Minute Men, the citizen soldiers of the
Colonial days; and
WHEREAS, the NATIONAL GUARD carrying out the traditions of the
citizen soldiers now supplies the bulk of our Nation's ready
reserve; and
WHEREAS, the NATIONAL GUARD has served to protect the people of
our community in time of war and during natural disasters; and
WHEREAS, the NATIONAL GUARD is the only military organization
which is assigned and trained to provide assistance in State
emergencies to protect lives and property; and
WHEREAS, the NATIONAL GUARD besides providing security for our
people, affords individuals an opportunity to accept responsibility
and serve their communities while learning to become leaders; and
WHEREAS, the NATIONAL GUARD gives individuals an opportunity to
learn a trade or skill and, more importantly, a chance to enjoy
civilian life while contributing to the safety and welfare of their
country and their community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it endorses the efforts and goals of the 1982 2D
BATTALION 299TH INFANTRY RECRUITMENT PROGRAM and highly recommends
that all men between the ages of 17 to 26 to contact their nearest
National Guard Unit Recruiter.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council hereby requests the
Mayor to encourage all interested and qualified employees to become
"citizen soldiers"

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk remit true copies
of this Resolution to Mayor Herbert T. Matayoshi, the Adjutant
General, State of Hawaii, and Lieutenant Colonel Henry S. Hara.
