Resolution No. 282 82
WHEREAS, on Tuesday, January 12, 1982, the Federal Native
Hawaiian Study Commission has scheduled public hearings in Waimea
and Hilo to receive testimony and conduct a complete study with a
purpose to determine with certainty the legitimacy of the claims by
Native Hawaiians for just reparations for the loss and displacement
of lands resulting from the overthrow of the Hawaiian Monarchy; and
WHEREAS, this study can be another vehicle to prove that the
great injustice caused by the United States of America in the
overthrow of Queen Liliuokalani in 1893, was a brash and illegal act
which caused the Native Hawaiians to lose their ancestral lands
without due compensation; and
WHEREAS, an important opportunity is now before the Hawaiian
people to redress this wrongdoing by providing testimonies before
this learned commission, documenting as concise as possible actual
experiences, events, and/or circumstances whereby Native Hawaiians
have been adversely affected by the ramifications of the 1893 demise
of the Hawaiian Monarchy; and
WHEREAS, it is our contention that this eleven year effort will
culminate in the findings by this study commission that the U. S.
Government was indeed responsible for the loss of dominion and
domain of Native Hawaiians and that they and their descendants were
never rightfully renumerated for their precious losses.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII extends its greeting and welcome to the members of the
Federal Native Hawaiian Study Commission on the advent of their
January 12, 1982 visitation and hope them every success in the
conduct of hearings and wish them a pleasant and safe journey during
their stay in Hawaii.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
transmit true copies of this Resolution to Kina'u Boyd Kamali'i,
Winona Beamer, H. Rodger Betts of the Federal Native Hawaiian Study
Commission; Ed Auld and Bill Kalei from the Office of Hawaiian
Affairs; Winona Rubin and Betty Snowden from Alu Like; and Charles
Rose, President of the Hawaiian Civic Clubs.
