RESOLUTION NO. 280 82
WHEREAS, the Hawaii Island Portuguese Chamber of Commerce is
a newly formed organization created to promote trade and commerce
in the County of Hawaii and to advance the understanding of., and
appreciation for, our free enterprise system; and
WHEREAS, among the purposes and objectives of this organization
are the desire to inspire persons of Portuguese ancestry in education,
business, and community endeavor and to encourage the preservation
of the unique and valuable Portuguese heritage; and
WHEREAS, as the third such organization to be established in
the State of Hawaii,. the Hawaii Island Portuguese Chamber of Commerce
is a welcomed addition to the Big Island's community of business and
professional organizations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it takes this means to congratulate the officers and
members of the Hawaii Island Portuguese Chamber of Commerce for
their effort in bringing this organization to fruitation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council takes great pleasure
in endorsing Mayor Herbert Matayoshi's declaration of January 19, 1982
as "Portuguese Day" in the County of Hawaii in honor of this fine
organization.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a true copy of this Resolution be
presented to Mr. James S. Souza, the first President of the Hawaii
Island Portuguese Chamber of Commerce at its General Membership
Meeting and Installation Banquet on January 19, 1982.
