HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 277 Draft 01 1980-1984RESOLUTION NO. 27782 WHEREAS, the 1981 annual National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) Meritorious Public Service Medal was conferred to William H. Meinecke of Waiohinu, Ka'u by Lt. Governor Jean King on December 4, 1981 at Haalehu School; and WHEREAS, in announcing the award given to Meinecke, King stated, "Uncle Bill at 93, has made a cumulative contribution to Hawaii both in the course of his daily ongoing activities and in very special ways which transcend any quantifiable measurement. Mahalo Williama, Keiki O Ka Aina, true Kamaaina"; and WHEREAS, although being of pure German extraction, "Uncle Bill" speaks fluent Hawaiian -and is a translator of Hawaiian documents and possesses historical background on which basis are used by the local courts in settling the rights of ancient trail accesses, also he is a resource person to students of Hawaiian language, history, and culture; and WHEREAS, "Williama" graduated from Normal School (Teachers College) in 1909, was of the second graduating class of the University of Hawaii, College of Agriculture in 1913, served as a teacher at Mid -Pacific Institute and later served as vice-principal and business manager of the Ncrmal School, also was the Assistant Treasurer of the Teachers College in 1931 and retired as Assistant Treasurer of the University of Hawaii in 1953. . NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL'OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it extends its congratulations to William H. (Uncle Bill/ Williama) Meinecke in receiving the 1981 National Association of Secretaries of State Meritorious Public Service Medal by Lt. Governor Jean King, and wish him many years of productive life. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii transmit a true copy of this resolution to William H.
