HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 247 Draft 01 1980-19840 RESOLurioa No. 247-81 WHEREAS, the 11th Annual Kona Coffee Festival 4 -day celebration culminated with the crowning of Lani Sakamoto of Kailua-Kona on November 7, 1981; and WHEREAS, the celebration began on 'November 4 with the International Lantern Parade with representatives of various ethnic cultures attired in their native dress, ending with a Bon Dance in memory of people who pioneered the building of the coffee industry in Kona; and WHEREAS, the 4 -day celebration included the Third Annual Superbean Run of. 10 kilometers, exhibits, coffee liquor tasting, recipe contest, culinary. demonstration, Hawaiians show, display -demonstration of arts and crafts, parade and a band concert; and WHEREAS, the 11th Annual Kona Coffee Festival committee was headed by its General Chairman Ken .Iichael, Vice Chairman Gordon Bartsch, Secretary Jean Ronda, Treasurer Mark Perlmutter with a host of other chairmen and members who spent nearly a year putting the gigantic project together successfully; and WHEREAS, the theme of 1981 Kona Coffee Festival was "Kona Coffee is Our Pot of mold", symbolizing the world's greatest coffee in unique flavor and aroma, commercially grown only in the Kona area within the United States; and WHEREAS, the people in Kona recognize the Kona Coffee Festival as a salute to the industry that nurtured Kona for so many years and helped give Kona part of its unique character. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it extends its commendation for their many contributions and congratulates the people who were responsible in putting the 11th Kona Coffee Festival together, especially its Chairman Ken Michael who made every attempt to match the festive production of Chairwoman Julie Honda, a 10 -year consecutive veteran who preceded him. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii transmit a true copy of this resolution to Por. Ken Michael, Chairman of the 1981 Kona Coffee Festival Committee.
