HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 243 Draft 01 1980-1984RESOLUTION NO. 243 81 WHEREAS, Kuka'SPOKA, acronym for State Park at Old Kona Airport, is an organization founded by Jerry Rothstein to protect and prove the public's right of access to beach areas near the airport, including the Kukaili'moku Point; and WHEREAS, while the organization's basic goal is to develop these State lands for the use and pleasure of the community; and WHEREAS, during the interim, an ongoing training program'of community volunteers is being conducted for the purpose of manning weekend on-site information stations so that visitors may enjoy the beautiful sandy beaches, the picturesque protected coves and experience the many Hawaiian artifacts without trespassing upon private lands; and WHEREAS, in conjunction with.this effort, Kuka'SPOKA has been involved for the past three months in a successful and continuing cleanup program of the beach areas involving many community -minded persons and commercial entities supportive of this endeavor; and WHEREAS, some beautification and public access campaigns have also been evidenced in other parts of the island shows growing support and involvement of the public in these two areas of community concern. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it commends Kuka'SPOKA for their initiative and good samaritan efforts in championing the cause of public access in the Kailua-Kona area and for the effective clean-up program. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a true copy of this resolution be remitted to Jerry Rothstein of Kuka'SPOKA with its wishes for continued success in their worthy community improvement endeavors.
