WHEREAS, the Hui Mamalahoa, a member of the Kohala Alliance
Council, will be spearheading a clean-up campaign of Kohala's
surfing and fishing areas on Saturday, November 7, 1981; and
WHEREAS, this organization which will soon be celebrating its
third year of existence, has been concerned and working towards the
protection of Kohala's rich heritage, the preservation of its
natural beauty and the promotion of public land access to areas
closed due to the termination of the Kohala Sugar Company; and
WHEREAS, Hui Mamalahoa, which means "peace to access", is an
appropriate name of this group as they have been working quietly and
diligently since its inception with the various land owners, surf
groups, ranchers and fishermen to share the many responsibilities
related to public access.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it commends HUI MA14ALAHOA for its community -oriented
dedication aptly reflected in the many worthy projects it has
undertaken to improve the Kohala district.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
remit true copies of this resolution to Thomas Solomon, President of
Hui Mamalahoa; Roderick Hinokawa, President of Kohala Alliance
Group.; and Jeffrey Coakley, Community Specialist for Alu Like, Inc.,
along with its wishes for continued community involvement and
success.
