RESOLUTION PiO. 232 E3�
WHEREAS, at the annual Hawaii Medical Association meeting held
in Honolulu, Ur. Richard O. Lundborg, until recently Chief of
Anesthesiology at the Hilo Hospital, was 'named "Physician of the
Year" for his outstanding service to the community; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Lundborg's community service zeachas every single
individual living on the island of Hawaii, especially in tate area of
life support, health education on air pollution, preventative health
legislation, and is also an avid Vulcan team booster; and
WHEREAS, while being the only physician on the Council of 23
non -physician advisory councilmen of the American Lung Association
of (Hawaii., Dr. Lundborg has contributed his expertise in the
promotion of eliminating air pollution, also composed songs aired
over the radio stations durinI the Lung Association's annual Blue
Sky Award and "Superki9s" fundraising event for the purpose of
educating the public; and
WRKEAS, Dr. Lundborg contributed greatly toward the enactment
of a County ordinance prohibiting smoking in enclosed public
buildings, such as the Civic Auditorium, the County Co°uncilroom,
gymnasiums, with special emphasis toward the prevention of
respiratory ailments; and
WHEREAS, as a founder of the Hawaii County Emergency health
Services Committee, Dr. Lundborg began traini.n; the Hawaii County
Volunteer Firemen ,and the hospital ambulance operators, the rudiment
of emergency life support (cardio -pulmonary resuscitation, drug
control, diagnostic) in order to render service to patients durin;
emergency calls, and is considered the organizer of the most
efficient EMS system in.the State, the only system that is part of
.he County Fire Department in the State of Hawaii.
NOVA T?lZ1 F0aZ, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNT.' OF
THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it -extends its recognition and
congratulations to Dr. Richard 0. Lundborg for being named
"Physician of the Year" in the State of Hawaii by the Hawaii Nedical
Association for many years of his community service.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED t,at the Council expresses its deepest
mahalo to JoAnn, his wife, in allowing the people of Hawaii County
to share his invaluable nine years in order for hire to be able to
give public service, lending credence to the adage, "The attributes
of a :pan can be igeasured by the kind if wife he is married to."
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
transmit a true copy of this resolution to Dr. and :ors. Richard 0.
Lundborg.
