Resolution
RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE HAWAII '82 CAMPAIGN
WHEREAS, after 30 years of phenomenal growth, the State of
Hawaii has experienced dramatic declines in total visitors in
1979 and 1980 which threaten the livelihood of thousands of
residents on each of our four Counties; and
WHEREAS, nowhere else in the State is the impact more
pronounced than on the Big Island where a visitor decline of
19.2 percent was registered for the first eight months of 1981
as compared to the same period a year ago; and
WHEREAS, the national economy, a major determinate of
Hawaii's tourism industry, is in an uncertain state, indicating
the strong possibility that Hawaii's visitor count will continue
to decline in 1981; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii State Association of Counties (HSAC)
appreciates the need to boost Hawaii's tourism through planned
efforts such as HAWAII '82, the State's major advertising
campaign to promote Hawaii to the world,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it endorses the HAWAII '82 campaign being
conducted by the State of Hawaii and the Hawaii Visitors Bureau
and encourages The Hawaii State Association of Counties and
Hawaii's four Mayors to lend their full support to the success
of this campaign.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be
forwarded to the Governor of the State of Hawaii; the Mayors of
Hawaii's four Counties; the President of HSAC: the HAWAII '82
officials; and the Hawaii Visitors Bureau.
Dated at Hilo, Hawaii, this 4th day of November ,
