WHEREAS, Ri!AS, the American Hawaii Cruises with its shin the
SS Oceanic Independence recently began its weekly 7 -day cruises of
the five most popular ports -of -call on four different islands; and
WHENEAS, such an activity offers a pleasurable vacation, an
opportunity to learn about Hawaii's fascinating history, and a chance
to see a variety of our islands famous places; and
0IHEREAS, with the commencement of these cruises, the County of
Hawaii, in co-operation with the Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce
and Fuji Color of Hawaii, has initiated the Hula Halau project which
returns to Hawaii the once colorful, popular and well received
dockside welcoming ceremonies; and
:'I'EREAS, this welcomed endeavor by the American Hawaii Cruises
which will be expanded to also include the 800 -passenger.
SS Constitution will, without doubt, have a needed positive impact
beneficial to our island's economy.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT .RCSOLVZD BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it commends the American Hawaii Cruises for its foresight
and confidence in the Hawaii tourist market and wishes them every
success in this venture.
BE IT FUZ'MER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be
instructed to remit true copies of this resolution to David
Stolimayer, President of the American Hawaii. Cruises;
V. R. Antworth, Captain of the SS independence; the President of Fuji
Color of Hawaii; Donald Yamada, President of the Hawaii Island
Chamber. of Commerce; and 'Jot Thompson, Co-ordinator of the Hula Halau
Project.
