Resolution No. 97 81
WHEREAS, among the relatively recent laws affecting agriculture
in the State of Hawaii is Act 197 of the Session Laws of Hawaii 1976;
and
WHEREAS, among its several provisions, Act 197 provided for the
establishment of the Governor's Agricultural Coordinating Committee
whose primary function is the coordination of all State agriculture
related programs; and
WHEREAS, one of the stated duties of the Governor's Agricultural
Coordinating Committee is the preparation of a State agriculture
Policy which will serve as a guide for agricultural development in
the State of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, because agriculture has always been the backbone of
the Big Island's economy and since this island offers the greatest
potential for the development of diversified agriculture in the
State of Hawaii, the Hilo County Farm Bureau has taken the position
that the island of Hawaii should be represented in the Governor's
Agricultural Coordinating Committee; and
WHEREAS, at its meeting of March 26, 1981, the Hilo County
Farm Bureau formally authorized the nomination of Kazuto "Slim"
Takayama for membership to the Governor's Agricultural Coordinating
Committee; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Takayama was selected on the basis of his qualifi-
cations as a farmer of considerable experience in diversified agricul-
ture and as a respected leader in Big Island agriculture.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it declares its endorsement of the Hilo County Farm
Bureau's nomination of Kazuto "Slim" Takayama for membership to the
Governor's Agricultural Coordinating Committee.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council respectfully requests
the Governor to consider Mr. Kazuto "Slim" Takayama as the County
of Hawaii's choice for membership in this very important Committee.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be
transmitted to Governor George R. Ariyoshi, State Senator Ralph Ajifu,
State Representative Yoshito Takamine, Mr. Stanley Oishi, President
of the Hilo County Farm Bureau and to Mr. Kazuto "Slim" Takayama.
