RESOLUTION NO. 149 99
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE COUNTY OF HAWAII TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH
THE STATE OF HAWAII, DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES, OFFICE OF YOUTH SERVICES, FOR A
GRANT TO CONTINUE ACOMMUNITY-BASED DELINQUENCY PREVENTION PROGRAM IN KA'U.
WHEREAS, the United States of America, through the State Department of Human Services, Office of Youth
Services, is desirous of continuing a community-based delinquency prevention program in Ka'u; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii State Department of Human Services, Office of Youth Services is prepared to provide
funding to the County of Hawaii, Department of Parks and Recreation, through federal funds from Title V Juvenile De-
linquency Prevention; and
WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii, Department of Parks and Recreation is ready and willing to continue the
"Kokua Ka'u Project" through Ka'u Learning Center, umbrella for The Ka'u Council; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 46-7 of the Hawaii Revised Statutes, the Council of the County of Hawaii may
enter into agreements with the federal government or any other public body or bodies respecting action to be taken pursu-
ant to any of the powers granted to it by law and famish, expend, and receive any funds in connection with projects to be
undertaken;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII, that the
Honorable Stephen K. Yamashiro is hereby authorized to execute on behalf of the County of Hawaii, the Contract Num-
ber DHS-2000-OYS-8380, which will effectuate these purposes for fiscal years 1999-2000, 2000-2001 and 2001-2002.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk is hereby directed to forward copies of this Resolution to
said Mayor Yamashiro, the Director of Parks and Recreation, and any other interested governmental agencies.
