County of Hawaii - State of Hawaii
Resolution
WHEREAS, beginning April 23, 1981, the County of Hawaii will
be honored with a visitation of a 15 member delegation of U.S.
Congressmen led by the Honorable Speaker of the House of Representa-
tives Thomas "Tip" O'Neill, Jr.; and
WHEREAS, this most welcomed and timely visit will be the last
leg of their 13 -day trip to the Pacific Basin countries of Australia
and New Zealand to speak on issues involving trade and security; and
WHEREAS, while in Hawaii these legislators are scheduled to
confer with Admiral Robert Long, Commander -In -Chief of the U.S.
Military operations in the Pacific and they will also observe
Military exercises put on by the 25th Infantry Division at the
Pohakuloa Training area; and
WHEREAS, their stay on the Big Island will accord us an
opportunity to discuss and pursue the many concerns that we are
currently experiencing due to the actions of the U.S. Congress.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it extends its welcome and aloha to these VIP visitors
and offers every courtesies and services of the county should these
be needed for the duration of their visitation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
is hereby instructed to transmit copies of this resolution to
Speaker of the U.S. House, Thomas P. O'Neill, with the Council's
wishes for a fruitful and safe visit.
