WHEREAS, on March 7, 1981, the Kohala Chapter of the Future
Farmers of America (FFA) held their Sixth Annual Open Market Day at
the Kamehameha Park in North Kohala; and
WHEREAS, this organization, composed of youths from Kohala,
captioned this year's event, "Water. -Every Drop is a Precious One",
a timely theme in light of the recent drought conditions which '
adversely affected almost every person and business throughout the
island; and
WHEREAS, the Open Market Day was deemed a success by many '
participants and spectators who attended, but more importantly, it
generated funds for the Kohala FFA which will help them perpetuate
their objectives of conserving and protecting agricultural lands',
promoting diversified farming, and enhancing the possibility,of
agricultural self-sufficiency for this county as'well as the state;
and ,
WHEREAS, this year's festivities included a variety of well'
planned and interesting activities in which all those in attendance
could enjoy, has now developed into a major social event bonding the
Kohaia people into a cooperative venture which has revitalized the
pride and spirit of the entire community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL. OF THE COUNTY. OF
HAWAII that it commends the Kohala Chapter of the Future Farmers ,of
America for their dedication and hard work in sponsoring and con-
ducting a most beneficial project in the form of the Annual Open
Market Day.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
remit copies of this resolution along with the Hawaii County Council's
wishes for continued success to Dr. Kiyota Mizuba, District Superin-
tendent; Dr. Edward Okada, Kohala High School Principal;
Thomas Hatakeyama, FFA State Advisor; David Fuertes, FFA Advisor; `
George Ueda, Agricultural Program Specialist and Fred Dela Cruz,
FFA Chapter President.
