HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 066 Draft 01 1980-1984C RESOLUTION NO. 66 81 WHEREAS, the Ka'u High and Pahala Elementary School is scheduled in June to commemorate their centennial celebration of the founding of the school which began on June 11, 1081, with an enrollment of 48 students and has grown to an enrollment of 553 students; and WHEREAS, Dr. Cecil Dotts, school principal between 1932 and 1935, vividly recalled that the present school was built in 1935 with the generous appropriation from the Hawaii County Board of Supervisors of $30,000 for the school and $15,000 for the gymnasium; and WHEREAS, the chronological resumb of the school happenings are: 1940 - first high school graduation class; 1947 - addition of kindergarten; 1950 - construction of a grandstand; 1956 - construction of the cafeteria; 1957 - football added to athletic program; 1959 - school name changed to Ka'u High and Pahala Elementary School; 1971 - construction of the agricultural building; 1975 - construction of the science building; 1978 construction of the Physical Education Locker/Shower complex; 1979 - won the J.V. football championship; 1980 - re-entered the varsity football; 1981 - centennial celebration of the birth of the School. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL Or THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it extends its congratulations to the Ka'u High and Pahala Elementary School and urges everyone who had any connection with the school in the past to send in their name and address to the Ka'u High School Student Body Government or to phone 928-8337 as soon as possible to make this celebration a memorable one. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be directed to transmit true copies of this resolution to Mr. Thomas Higa, Principal of Ka'u High and Pahala Elementary School; Dr. Kiyoto Mizuba, Hawaii District Superintendent; and Mr. Carlan Sakamoto, President of Ka'u High School Student Body Government.
