HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 055 Draft 01 1980-1984RESOLUTION NO. 55 81 WHEREAS, the 4th Annual Nautilus International Triathlon, which was held in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii on February 14, 1981, was deemed to be a tremendous sporting extravaganza; and TIHEREA.S, this gruelling triathlon, which included a 24 -mile swim, a 11.2 -mile bicycle race and a 26.2 -mile marathon combined into a single event, is considered to be the most demanding athletic competition ever conceived; and WHERIAS, the uniqueness and expansiveness of this endeavor required planning and organizational talents to coordinate what eventually turned out to be 326 athletes, 1,000 volunteer helpers and over 7,000 spectators to its ultimate successful conclusion; and WHEREAS it has been the consensus amongst the athletes, the spectators and the people assisting in this premier endurance event, that the 4th Annual Nautilus International Triathlon was skillfully planned and professionally organized to the satisfaction and safety of the many entities involved. NO4I, TIiEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it would like to extend its congratulations and commenda- tions to all of. those involved whose tremendous enthusiasm and energy generated the Aloha Spirit which culminated in a most successful and entertaining sporting extravaganza. BE IT FURTIIER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be instructed to remit a true copy of this resolution to Valerie Silk, Race Director of the 4th Annual Nautilus International Triathlon, along with the Hawaii County Council's best wishes for continued successes in the future.
