HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 064 Draft 01 1980-1984•_. 4 X County of Hawaii - State of Hawaii Resolution WHEREAS, there is documented records of an alarming increase in from domestic problems; and evidence in our courts and police violence and crimes initiating WHEREAS, such findings indicate that domestic violence consti- tutes a significant percentage of homicides, aggravated assaults, and batteries committed in the State of Hawaii; and WHEREAS, there is an urgent need to develop innovative programs, strategies and services which will help to reduce such incidences, concurrent with the necessity to protect and assist victims of such circumstances; and WHEREAS, "Puuhonua," the Family Crisis Shelter in Hilo, is an integral phase in the present program of addressing domestic problems by providing an important and needed service to the unfortunate victims from receiving further abuse. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it endorses the idea for the development of family shelter services throughout the state, and it further supports the continued funding by the State Legislature for Puuhonua, the Family Crisis Shelter of Hilo, in the amount of $85,000 as described in H.B. 1019-81. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii remit copies of this resolution to Tony Kunimura, Finance Chairman of the State House of Representatives and Mamoru Yamasaki, Chairman of the State Senate Ways and Means Committee and Allegra Perhaes, Executive Director, of Puuhonua.
