WHEREAS, the University of Hawaii at Hilo Women's Volleyball'
Team recently participated in the 1980 Association of Intercollegiate
Athletics of Women (AIAW) Division II Volleyball Tournament; and
WHEREAS,, this championship sporting event, which was held"
this year at Northridge, California, featured sixteen of the best
Division II teams from all over.; the United States; and
WHEREAS, the Vulcan women won the�hearts.of tb spectators
with their outstanding volleyball skills and theirJttue Aloha
Spirit; and
WHEREAS, prestige and recognition was duly accorded the Vulcans
as CHERYL CH ING won the coveted,Br.oderick Award', given to the best
AIAW Division II volleyball player in,the Nation, andCheryl was ,
also named to the six -member All-American team along'�with teammates
CHARLENE KAHUANUI-and CARLA CARPENTER; and'
WHEREAS, the achievements and prominence these young ladies
have won for themselves and the community exemplifies the talent,
dedication and proficiency of .Coach Sharon Peterson and her staff:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE .COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it extends .its congratulations to the;University of
Hawaii -Hilo Women's Volleyball team and coaching staff for another
successful season:
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
remit true copies of this resolution to co-captains.;Cheryl Ching
and Sweetie Lindsey; members Giennie'Adams, Tammy Brown, Carla
Carpenter; Lei Colburn; Pauahi Ioane, Charlene Kahuanui, Joan Lui,
Edie Manzano, Randi Spector, Alofa Tagataese,,Cynthia Whitworth,`
and Kalei Wong; Head Coach Sharon Peterson; Assistant Coach Richard
